Step into the wild and join us for Wildlife Wanders – an interactive morning exploring the ancient woodland and rare chalk grasslands of Badgells Wood and Birling Estate. This guided nature walk is designed for curious minds, young and old, who want to discover the hidden wonders of Kent’s landscapes.
From the Wood Wide Web beneath your feet to the flutter of a rare butterfly in the sunshine, you’ll see nature up close through fun activities, wildlife spotting challenges, and fascinating stories about the land and its inhabitants.
What to expect
Moth Magic – Peek into our moth trap and discover some of the 270+ species recorded in Badgells Wood
Ancient Woodland Wonders – Learn about the Wood Wide Web in the soil beneath your wood, how veteran oak and yew trees support entire ecosystems and uncover the story of our chalk bat cave.
Chalk Grassland Safari – Spot rare orchids, butterflies and reptiles while learning how conservation grazing keeps this fragile habitat thriving.
Wildlife Close-ups – Use magnifying glasses to get a detailed look at plants and insects.
Sustainable Woodland Management – See how coppicing benefits biodiversity and provides timber for our woodland kitchen and play areas.
